Made my first trip to Tokyo today. Took less than an hour and a half and was less than 700 yen, not too shabby-shabby. Can't say I really enjoyed the place though, at least where we were. We spent the entire day wandering around Shibuya looking for a specific shabu shabu restaurant with a fairly cheap all you can eat 90 minute deal. This however was perhaps the best part of the day for the fact that I got to practice the asking for directions-Japanese. As for Shibuya itself, it's very difficult to move around. Basically it's like Octoberfest in Cincinnati but for at least 10 blocks, (although roads aren't sectioned into blocks), in each direction from the middle Times Square-ish intersection. It's seriously hilarious to see nearly 2,000 people cross an intersection at once. We made efforts getting away from the crowd at the fairly large park nearby, but still completely crowded. What was different about Tokyo though was the fact that there were so many foreigners, particularly from other asian countries. It seemed like it would be unpleasant for the typical inbred Japanese, but business as usual for the rest of the world. Feeling stocked up from the food I could barely keep myself from sleeping on the long train ride home. Eyes closed most of the way.
