Before I work on what I/we accomplished in the last few days, today while shopping at my favorite store, Big-A, I experienced my first earthquake

Inside the store, the shelves were rocking back and fourth pretty well. Song playing; Michael McDonald, "I Keep Forgetting (every time you're near)".

There was one other customer and a girl at the checkout.  I kinda just looked over at them while it was happening.  It was like standing on a waterbed.  When it first hit I sorta lost my balance and my stomach.  It's difficult to describe the feeling, but it was similar to the feeling of car sickness because everything was moving around, but since I couldn't actually see the floor itself move, my body had trouble figuring out what was stationary.

Afterwards I asked the girl working and she said it was pretty strong. When I got back to my house there were a few neighbors outside talking about it.  One lady walked by my apartment and said Konban Wa, something that would never ordinarily happen.  I asked her about it too.
I checked the NHK stations, PBS of Japan, and they posted a level 4 for Kasukabe. Enough to knock a few things off shelves if they're close to the edge, but nothing too serious. Could have been worse in some of these houses. Big-A is the "Big" A.

  1. Whoa. You were in an earthquake. But you had to listen to Michael Macdonald. I don't know if that makes you cooler for surviving both or if the music totally kills the coolness factor. Hmmm.
