Been listening to Woxy for pretty much the entire day. Wondering how many listeners they had online (at 5am eastern) and whatyaknow, "97 Listeners".
The end of the year broadcast was fun to listen to. After reading the pitchfork top 100 I was beginning to question music of 2009, but they (woxy) reassured there was indeed hours of great tunes. The best and worst aspect of woxy is they play hundreds of new records (650 for 2009) throughout the year but rarely connect them with older tunes. Kexp DJ's from Seattle tend to combine similar genres for the 3 or 4 songs played at a time which makes listening way easier. And it definitely has it's moments in multi-genre sets.
The WOXY playlist has proven itself the leader in creating futuristic sets of music by rotating music that in general has been produced within the last five years, if not yesterday. They are indeed "the future of rock n' roll".
The Kexp's greatest albums of 2009 is set to air for New Years and the greatest albums of the decade (listener decided?) is set for some time in January. I might miss both, but hoping to catch something.
You're really listening at the wrong time to listen to WOXY - they are on autopilot right now with the holidays and everything has been pre-programmed.
ReplyDeleteI'd recommend listening when the DJ's are on the air to get a better feel for the station. They'll be back on after the beginning of the year.
BTW - that picture is of the old FM station and hasn't been in existence since 2004.
Awesome! I'm honored to be commented by the man, the myth, the sledge. I'm aware of the picture and all that. Going back to 2004, there was that morning after that I heard your voice on the FM and thought, "a hoax!.... oh wait, alright. it's over". until it began again.
ReplyDeletebut yeah. My wish is that woxy fulfills a 24 hour DJ schedule again, particularly for all the international folk.
