Watched the movie Hype! and reinvested interest in "punk" music, though... not really. Cause so much of this isn't considered to be punk. What distinguishes the two are bands that exercise their freedom verses bands who wear mohawks and chug through blues progressions. They're both cool, but the Seattle punk had so much more involved. Elements of metal, jazz, New York's "no-wave", varied instruments, and a sense of sarcasm that most bands never brushed upon.
Some Velvet Sidewalk

Anyway, gonna start digging for these gems when I get back to the States. There's a band with a guy wearing a wolf mask and a guy in a telephone costume. THAT is punk.
