Music of 2009

Of each individual year of the 2000s, (the "oughts" ??), 2009 probably felt the least like it. And perhaps one of the most exciting years for that very reason.  Also wanted to note that M.I.A.'s influence on music as a whole has subtlety made itself present. If not in the music directly, then in the art and styles that surround it.

I wasn't gonna make a list and instead throw all the songs up in no particular order. But that would just be lazy now wouldn't it.  So.............Heres some tunes that played (what seemed like 100s of times) in my headphones throughout the year.

10. Atlas Sound- "Walkabout

-psychedelic pop, just like the album art.

9.Enon- "We are the Robots"

-happy to include enon one way or another. the song proves Matt Schulz is great for live shows, but not necessary for recording.

8. Wavvs- “No Hope Kids

-again, the pre-grunge alt-rock is felt in this one. almost like an early Ween track.

7. The Fresh and Onlys- “Endless Love

-there was sorta a surf revival. felt this band took the lead.

6. Neon Indian- “Deadbeat Summer

-its like the intro to "Yan San and the Japanese People"

5. St. Vincent- “Actor Out of Work

-does the synth hits on a guitar live. sweet.

4. Junior Boys- "Parallel Lines

-electronic

3. Micachu and the Shapes- “Golden Phone

-made her own instruments and praised by bjork.

2. Thao and the Get Down Stay Down- “Cool Yourself

-compared to their debut, songs on "Know Better Learn Faster" had a third dimension. more harmonies and what felt like two Thaos singing at the same time.  self reflection.

- (this has george harrison written all over it)

 1. Flaming lips- “Silver Trembling Hands
